ROCHESTER – Norwich native Daniel Conant travelled to Rochester, New York last Saturday, March 25 and came home with a world record as well as a state title in powerlifting.
Conant, who participated in the 17-19 age group bracket at the World Natural Powerlifting Tournament, weighing in at 165 pounds – chalked bench presses of 265 pounds and 275 pounds respectively to clinch the record and subsequent tournament win. His third attempt of 290 pounds, fell just short.
“It felt great to be able to pause (bench) 275 pounds,” said Conant. “I’m satisfied that I won the tournament, but I wish I could have completed my third attempt. Next time, I will.”
Conant has been powerlifting for over 10 years, and has no plans to stop anytime in the near future.
“I plan on pursuing a career in powerlifting eventually. It’s a work in progress, but I’m well on my way,” said Conant.
Full results from the tournament will be posted at wnpfpl.com within the next month.
