Annual “Spring Frolic” to raise funds for Rogers Center

Friends of Rogers, the nonprofit organization that operates Rogers Center, will host its 6th annual “Spring Frolic” fundraising gala. The event, to be held on March 30 from 6-9 pm at Magros Banquet Hall on Route 12B in Sherburne, will feature Master of Ceremonies Steven Craig.

New this year, the event will be “A Savory Celebration” with favorite culinary venues presenting signature offerings throughout the evening’s festivities. A highlight of the festivities will be recognition of Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, award-winning author and SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor with the College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Friends of Rogers Board of Directors have again agreed to host the Spring Frolic 2017 Gift Challenge by pledging a record-setting $1,750 in matching funds. Any donation or pledge made to Friends of Rogers during the Spring Frolic will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to the total match amount.

“This is our largest collective match amount ever,” said Sharon Pelosi, Board Vice President. “I am inspired by the generosity of my fellow board members, and I hope that Spring Frolic guests will take advantage of this special opportunity to see their contributions have double the impact toward achieving our mission.”

Spring Frolic is the primary fundraising event for Friends of Rogers, attracting nearly two hundred community supporters. Proceeds raised from the event fund over 5% of the organization’s annual operating budget.

Throughout the evening, a variety of silent auction selections will offer something for every guest. Traditional favorites, such as pieces from local artisans and regionally crafted spirits, are among the options. In keeping with the evening’s theme, there are offerings from popular restaurants including Copper Turret, Empire Brewing Company, Koto Japanese Steakhouse, Ray Brother’s BBQ, Smokin’ Bones BBQ, and Texas Roadhouse. Other packages highlight cultural destinations such as Arts at the Palace, Chenango County Council of the Arts, Cortland Repertory Theatre, Earlville Opera House, Symphoria!, and Syracuse Stage. Regional attractions include the Adirondack Museum, Howe Caverns, Onondaga County Parks, Lake George Steamboat Company, Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse, National Baseball Hall of Fame, Ithaca Sciencenter, Uncle Sam Boat Tours in the Thousand Islands, Santa’s Workshop in the North Pole, Seabreeze Amusement Park, and Rochester Museum and Science Center.

Pre-registration commitments made by March 24 are $49 per person. Event reservations made after that date increase to $58 per person. Space is limited, so be sure to make reservations as soon as possible by calling (607) 674-4733.

“Friends of Rogers is very grateful to our donors and supporters, whose generosity enables us to offer programs that excite, inspire, and motivate people of all ages to enjoy, understand, appreciate, and protect our natural environment,” Pelosi said. “If you can’t make Spring Frolic but you’d still like to support Rogers Center, visit www.FriendsofRogers.org/donate.”

A non-profit organization, Friends of Rogers has managed Rogers Environmental Education Center since state funding closed operations at the end of 2010. In the years since, Rogers Center has evolved into the region’s premier eco-tourist destination and environmental resource, serving more than 13,000 visitors each year.
