HANCOCK – The Greene Trojans varsity tennis team kicked off their new season last Monday, April 3, against Hancock.
It wasn’t the beginning they had hoped for, as they were defeated on a score line of 4-1.
In the singles portion of the match, the first matchup paired Hancock’s Bailey VanLoan against Greene’s Zak Westover. VanLoan took the honors in straight sets, 6-2 and 7-5.
Hancock’s number two Porter Crawsin was also victorious, as he easily defeated Kevin Gyurik of the Trojans, 6-1, 6-1, to give his side a 2-0 advantage.
Hancock’s Alyson Henson completed the sweep of the singles matchups, as she downed Kelly Darling, 7-5, 6-1.
The Trojans were able to claim a game in the doubles portion of the match, as the duo at second doubles – Rachel Franciscovich and Bryanna Kinney defeated Riley Ostrander and Makenna Loucks, in straight sets at 6-2 and 6-3.
However, the Hancock pairing of Michael Argiros and Tiffany Poborsky closed the match out with a win over Greene’s Tommy Tran and Hannah Hatfield at 6-2 and 6-2 – to essentially seal the victory for Hancock.
Greene (0-1 overall), will have some time to reflect upon what went wrong in the loss, before they take on Bainbridge-Guilford in their next match. That match is set for Wednesday, April 19, at 4:15 p.m.
