NEW BERLIN – Following a 16-0 thrashing by Harpursville, the Unadilla Valley varsity softball team turned things around in a big way, and secured their first win of the 2017 season in the process.
They overcame Delaware Academy on a final score of 10-3 at home on Tuesday, April 25.
The Storm looked like a completely rejuvenated side in the win.
In what was a back-and-forth affair, the game was knotted at three runs a piece as the game neared its conclusion.
That was until the UV offense erupted in the bottom of the sixth inning, driving in a whopping seven runs.
Sara Nogaret played a key role in the victory for the Storm. She was perfect at the plate on the day, going 4-4, and her double in the sixth inning was what jump started the UV offense.
Tia Peck also had a great outing on the mound for UV. She pitched the entire seven innings, surrendering just three runs on eight hits. She also struck out six batters on her way to earning the win.
Along with Nogaret, Kristen White, Meegan White and Gabby Bodie all had multi-hit games for the Storm in the victory.
UV will be hoping to build on this impressive performance when they travel to Walton. That game is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
