Bainbridge-Guilford Softball defeats Unatego 12-2 on Monday
BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford lady Bobcats showed dominance to close out the season on with two wins this week.
On Monday, May 1, Bainbridge-Guilford hosted the Unatego lady Spartans – crushing them at 12-2.
Unatego jumped to a one run lead after the first only to see B-G take full control with a tying run in the second, followed by a four run inning in the fifth. With the life drained from the Spartans, B-G turned a 5-2 competitive game into a blowout – adding seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Megan Palmatier finished 3-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI. Kori Thornton finished 2-3 with two runs and one RBI. Jillian Cannistra finished 3-4 with one run and one RBI, while Kassidy Davy went 2-2 with one run and one RBI – Ashley Matthews added a day going 1-2 with three runs and two RBI.
Pitching the entire inning – allowing just six hits – was Thornton. Thornton proceeded to strikeout 11 Unatego batters in the process.
With one remaining game on the regular season schedule, the lady Bobcats were looking to finish with the best regular season record in Bainbridge-Guilford school history.
“Tomorrow is our last league game against Greene,” said Bainbridge-Guilford head coach Randy Palmatier. “We will not win the league. Deposit has not lost a league game. And they beat us. It’s our one loss.”
Bainbridge-Guilford (14-1 overall at the time) had no time to regroup before hosting Greene on Tuesday, May 2.

Bainbridge-Guilford Softball defeats Greene 15-0 on Tuesday
BAINBRIDGE – The lady Bobcats hosted the lady Trojans of Greene on Tuesday, ripping them apart for a 15-0 blanking.
“Two big home tuns tonight by Palmatier and Barber. Thornton had a no hitter until the sixth, she only gave up one hit,” said Bainbridge-Guilford head coach Randy Palmatier.
Bainbridge-Guilford drove in at least one run in all six innings played on Tuesday – beginning with back-to-back two run innings in the first and second.
Up 7-0 over Greene, B-G once again used some late game antics to expand the lead, driving in seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Tiffany Johns of Greene would prove to be the lone Trojan batter to be able to pin down a pitch – snagging Greene’s lone hit of the night in the sixth inning.
Taking the win for the Bobcats was once again Kori Thornton. Thornton pitched 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts, no walks and only one hit. Miller would step in for .1 of an inning to finish the game off, adding one additional strikeout.
Leading B-G in their nine hit effort at the plate was Alexis Carr 2-2 two RBI and two runs, and Megan Palmatier 2-4 with two RBI and two runs – adding a home run. Bree Barber finished 1-3 with three runs and a home run – with Thornton, Cannistra, Davy, and Swartwout all contributing a hit a piece as well.
Chrissy Boeltz took the loss for Greene, pitching all seven innings with no strikeouts and nine walks.
“Best record ever for B-G,” said coach Palmatier. “The girls have worked very hard this season to earn their 15-1 record. It so nice to see all their off-season efforts pay off in the regular season.”
Finishing the season 15-1 – with their lone loss coming to powerhouse Deposit – the B-G Bobcats now await the first round in the MAC Tournament.
Palmatier alleged that earlier in the season the team recognized their four graduating seniors: Abbi Miller, Viking Kovacs, Devin Neidig, and Dani Johnson.
Bainbridge-Guilford, the second seed, is scheduled to play Hancock in the first round of the MAC League tournament at Bainbridge on May 9, at 4:30 p.m. Greene played next against Walton in a home league matchup on Wednesday, May 3.

Greene Softball defeats Walton 16-14 on Wednesday
GREENE – Bouncing back wonderfully from the 15-0 thrashing that Greene softball received from Bainbridge-Guilford on Tuesday, the lady Trojans strung together a solid performance to defeat Walton 16-14.
Walton proved to be the aggressor in the game on Wednesday, May 3, as they attacked the Trojans for a five run opening inning. Greene would fail to find the lead until the fifth inning when they started their climb for the win. The lady Trojans smacked 21 hits in their efforts, in the process of sending three runners home in the fifth, four in the sixth and three to hold on in the seventh.
Taking the win for Greene was Hannah Ludolph as she pitched the entire game to her pitcher Tiffany Johns.
Alyssa Sands and McKenna Sergi would lead the charge at the plate for Greene going 4-5 and 5-5 respectively. Sergi scored three runs with four RBI, while Sands smacked two doubles with four runs and four RBI. Tiffany Johns added in a performance where she managed to get on base six time with four hits – scoring four runs.
Greene was scheduled to play Marathon at home on Thursday, May 4, however, no report has been made known. Next up for Greene (7-5 overall) is set to play next in the MAC league tournament at home against Harpursville on May 8, at 4:30 p.m.

Oxford Softball defeats Unadilla Valley 13-3 on Monday (Senior night)
OXFORD – Senior night could not have been any more productive than the one the 2017 Oxford softball squad enjoyed – ripping into Unadilla Valley for a 13-3 win at home.
Oxford recognized their three graduating seniors prior to the start of the game: Raigen Ehly, Kylie Roys and Layla Kriz.
And with that the Oxford seniors took over the game, leading to 10 of Oxford’s 10 hits coming from just the trio. Kriz finished 4-5 with a run. Ehly finished 3-5 with three runs and an RBI. Roys finished 3-5 with a run and one RBI. Lexi Kohlhepp added her at-bats to a solid stat-line going 3-3 with one run and three RBI.
Taking the win for the lady Blackhawks was Karly Marshman – three innings with six strikeouts and two walks. Allison Beckwith would clean up the game with her four innings pitched, leading to four strikeouts and no walks.
Oxford jumped to a 7-0 lead over the struggling UV program by the third inning – with four runs coming in just the opening inning.
Leading Unadilla Valley in hits on the day was Meegan White 2-3 with a run, and Gabby Bodie 2-3.
Oxford softball was given a day to rest after their home win over UV, and moved to see their next action on Thursday in an early MAC league tournament game.
Oxford finishes the regular season with a 3-8 overall record in 2017.

Oxford Softball defeats Delhi 14-4 on Thursday (MAC tournament)
OXFORD – Due to a conflicting schedule, the Oxford and Delhi softball teams squared off in their opening game of the MAC league tournament on Thursday, May 4.
Taking the thumping in this game – played between ninth-seeded Oxford and 12th seeded Delhi – Delhi had no answer for the lady Blackhawks bats.
Racking up 21 hits and producing 14 runs, Oxford easily ran away for the 14-4 home win. It was Destiny Oralls of Oxford who stepped up in a big way in the league tournament game, smashing four hits – hitting singles in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings of play. Oralls finished the day 4-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Adding to the frenzy of hits for Oxford was Layla Kriz 3-5 with one RBI and two runs, Kylie Roys 3-4 with one RBI and three runs, Rachel Tefft 2-4 with two RBI and one run, Allison Beckwith 3-5 with two RBI and one run, and Lexi Kohlhepp 3-4 with two runs scored. Catherine Northrup, Jessie Howe, and Raigen Ehly each added one hit in the win – with Ehly scoring twice.
Earning the win on the mound for Oxford was Allison Beckwith. Pitching seven innings, Beckwith downed five batters with strikeouts and only walked three – allowing seven hits.
With the game still close at 3-2 in favor of Oxford, heading into the third inning – the lady Blackhawks strung together four solid innings in a row with runs. This movement toward the win, was capped off with a six run sixth inning – taking the score from 8-3 to the final score of 14-4.
Next up for Oxford (4-8 overall), they will play home against Walton for the finals of the 9-12 bracket of the MAC league tournament.

Sidney Softball defeats Unadilla Valley 10-0 on Wednesday
SIDNEY – Wednesday held the same tune as most of the 2017 Unadilla Valley softball team’s season – a hard-fought loss, but a loss nonetheless.
The road game for the lady Storm on May 3, saw the Warriors of Sidney systematically take over the game resulting in a 10-0 loss to Sidney.
Taking the loss for Unadilla Valley on the mound was Tia Peck. For six innings Peck went to work, earning four strikeouts and allowing six walks in the process.
However, despite the fine pitching, Sidney was able to add up 17 total hits off Peck resulting in six runs in just the first two innings.
The lady Storm earned two solid hits in the loss – as Megan Winton and Kirsten White each finished 1-3 at the plate.
Taking the win for Sidney was Olivia Demott, who pitched all seven innings, striking out 11 UV batters and walking just one.
Unadilla Valley (1-10 overall), was scheduled to play at Walton on Thursday, May 4, however, no information was reported on the game, save the final score which saw Walton take the win at 8-7.

Little Falls Softball defeats Sherburne-Earlville 9-2 on Monday
SHERBURNE – The lady Marauders softball team of Sherburne-Earlville have suffered through some rough times during the 2017 season – adding two more losses to their standings as of this week.
With the first loss coming at the hands of Little Falls on Monday, S-E hosted the game which ended in a loss to Little Falls at 9-2.
S-E failed to find any momentum in the loss on Monday, giving up seven of their nine runs in the first three innings – while only managing to score once in that timeframe.
Leading S-E at the plate Matteson Gunther 2-3, Hope Beckwith 2-3, Sara Genter 1-3 and an RBI and McKenzie Holmes 1-3.
S-E followed up the dismal performance with another rough outing on Wednesday, when the team traveled to Frankfort-Schuyler.

Frankfort-Schuyler Softball defeats Sherburne-Earlville 13-1 on Wednesday
FRANKFORT –Sherburne-Earlville’s softball team took to the road for what proved to be a road loss to Frankfort-Schuyler on May 3.
Frankfort-Schuyler dominated the game, winning 13-1.
The defeats came by way of getting outhit at 9-3 as Frankfort-Schuyler powered in the runs throughout the game.
Leading S-E at the plate in the road loss was Miranda Wright, who went 2-3. Lizzy Bachman snagged the only other hit in the contest for the lady Marauders.
S-E would avoid the shutout in the game with a late run in the seventh inning.
Next up for Sherburne-Earlville (1-9 overall), they are scheduled to play next on Friday, May 5, when they host Mount Markham at 4:30 p.m.

Cincinnatus Softball defeats Otselic Valley 18-0 on Wednesday
CINCINNATUS – The Otselic Valley softball team struggled in their last outing on Wednesday, losing in a road game to Cincinnatus by a score of 18-0.
The league loss hurt, as Cincinnatus was able to tack on runs in all but the fifth inning of play – when the game was called due to the mercy rule.
Cincinnatus ran up the score, scoring six runs in just the first inning – sinking the lady Vikings ship early.
Taking the loss for Otselic Valley on the mound was Whitney Hamlin, pitching three innings with two strikeouts and 13 walks. Jolanda Ponce would come in for relief, earning one strikeout and walking one batter.
Cincinnatus’s pitcher, Cheyenne Nowalk earned a respectable day in the win, striking out four batters, and walking two.
Impressively, Cincinnatus was able to outhit the lady Vikings 18-0 on a night they will soon want to forget.
Next up for Otselic Valley (0-7 overall), they will be playing next at home against McGraw on Monday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m.

AFTON – Notably, Afton softball lost three straight games this past week – losing 4-3 to Harpursville on Monday, 5-1 to Hancock on Wednesday, and 9-0 to powerhouse Deposit on Thursday.
Afton, currently ranked fourth in the MAC league, is scheduled to play at Deposit on Tuesday May 9, for the first round in the 1-4 bracket of the MAC league tournament. The game on Tuesday is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start time.
No additional information was provided on the Afton games.
