Oxford Tennis defeats Bainbridge-Guilford 4-1 on Wednesday
OXFORD – Oxford Tennis defeated Bainbridge-Guilford 4-1 on Wednesday, adding another win to their already division leading 2017 season.
Earning nearly the shutout, the Blackhawks swept the Bobcats all the way through singles and would only surrender a team point due to second doubles.
Oxford’s Harry Oliver snagged an easy win over Bailey Hotaling, winning in straight sets at 6-2 and 6-1 at the top doubles spot. Second doubles, Gavin Wheatley downed Alex Tranvaag, blanking the Bobcats at 6-0 and 6-0.
Alyssa Hadges went to work at third doubles, battling with B-G’s Amaya Carlin – the result a hard-fought win for Oxford at 6-2 and 6-2.
Oxford’s dominate duo of Jason Davis and Rece Camadine dusted B-G’s Jared Pruskowski and Dadeon Canfield at the top doubles spot – winning in straight sets at 6-2 and 6-0.
Nate Oliver and Tannar Cliffe would emerge as the champions for Bainbridge-Guilford, saving the shutout loss when they won over Jourdan Pinney and Destiny Bedell at 6-2 and 6-4.
Oxford Tennis defeats Greene 4-1 on Thursday
OXFORD – In almost reverse fashion, Oxford would plow over fellow MAC league team Greene at 4-1 – however, would rely on their doubles to get the job done.
This time around, on Thursday, May 4, Oxford employed Gavin Wheatley at the top singles spot. Wheatley would battle to the best of his ability, however, Greene’s Zach Westover snagged the set win in tie-breaker fashion at 7-6(7-3), and 6-3.
That is when Oxford showed their dominance, from second doubles on, the Blackhawks saw victories the remainder of the evening.
Harry Oliver defeats Greene’s Isaac Trass in straight sets at 6-3 and 6-2. Third singles, Alyssa Hadges bested Kevin Gyurik of Greene in a tie-breaker at 7-6(7-3), and 6-3.
The doubles side of play on Thursday, saw Oxford’s Jason Davis and Rece Camadine win in straight sets over Sophia Brown and Mary Borchardt at 6-2 and 6-2.
The Blackhawk duo of Natalie Barrows and Jourdan Pinney finished the job off at second doubles, winning over Bryanna Kinney and Kelly Darling at 6-4 and 7-5.
Next up for Oxford tennis (5-2 overall) they will be traveling to Windsor on Monday, May 8 at 4 p.m. Greene tennis (0-5 overall) will be home against Hancock on Monday, May 8, at 4:15 p.m. Bainbridge-Guilford tennis (2-3 overall) currently has no more scheduled regular season matches and therefore concludes the 2017 season, next up sectionals at Hancock High School on Wednesday, May 10, at 4:30 p.m.
