Tenney releases statement on Comey firing

NEW HARTFORD – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) released the following statement yesterday, May 10 responding to the firing of FBI Director James Comey:

"There is no doubt that the President of the United States has the authority to fire the FBI Director. President Trump is not the first President, nor will he be the last, to remove an FBI Director," said Tenney.

"The FBI Director serves at the pleasure of the President, and reports indicate this decision was made in consultation with the Attorney General. It is clear that Director Comey had lost the confidence of members of both parties, and possibly the dedicated public servants he supervises at the FBI.

"Congressional committees are continuing to investigate any potential Russian involvement in the election. If the investigation demonstrates evidence of collusion with Russia, I would be supportive of further investigation, including the possibility of some type of special investigation. There are currently a lot of partisan allegations being thrown around, but no evidence," asserted Tenney.

"Going forward, I believe President Trump will nominate a highly-qualified professional to head the FBI and move this critical law enforcement agency past the political controversies that have engulfed it the past year,” said Tenney.
