Busy All American BMX shows no signs of slowing down

ENDICOTT – The All American BMX team in Norwich has now seen head coach Dave Lawson implement a new aspect into the team atmosphere – the STEM program.
Learning, kids don’t want to do – wrong. The All American BMX riders have welcomed the additional aspect to their newfound sport with open arms.
Thanks to the All American BMX sponsors – Norwich Rotary Club, Norwich Family YMCA and City of Norwich Youth Bureau – coach Lawson was able to purchase STEM kits (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – for a program offered after-school at the Norwich Skating Facility. The program is designed to be an equal part education equal part athletics and exercise – as the All American BMX riders are instructed on the fundamentals of the sports of BMX, while gaining hands on experience on how the bikes are assembled, built, and maintained.
Toss in a little ripping around on the bikes following their assembly, and the team has been nothing but ecstatic over the program.
This past weekend, on Friday, May 5, the All American BMX team was able to put their racing skills to the test, once again traveling to Grippen Park BMX in Endicott for some races.
Grippen Park BMX results:
• Owen Wier, second-place in 13 novice class
• Liam White, second-place in 9 novice class
• Patrick White, second-place in 11 novice class
• Ethan ‘Big Air’ Willis, first-place in 8 novice class
• ‘Factory Phil’ Sheridan, third-place in 11 intermediate class
• Gabe White, third-place in 11 novice class
• Vinny ‘Rapid Redline’, Lawson, third-place in 8 intermediate class
• Rowdy Etling, third-place in 9 novice
• Reed Etling, fourth-place in 9 novice class.
“Already have two new riders going this Friday night. Hoping to have the three girls on team on track this weekend,” said coach Lawson of the growing team. “Ethan ‘Big Air’ Willis is looking to capture his tenth win to move up to 8 intermediate class. Love to see these young racers setting their own goals.”
Next up for the All American BMX team, they will be traveling to Grippen Park BMX this Friday, May 12, for yet another go-around on the course in Endicott, New York.
