S-E softball skid to tenth loss of season

SHERBURNE – Following two back-to-back losses, the Marauder varsity softball team now stand at 1-10 on the season.
On Tuesday, May 9, S-E took on Sauquoit Valley. In a tightly contested game, they came out on the losing end, on a final score of 9-8.
The Marauders jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after just the first two innings, but a five-run third inning for their opponents was a crushing blow.
S-E regained the lead in the fifth inning, but Sauquoit Valley scored a run in both the sixth and seventh innings to secure the come-from-behind victory.
Isabella Arrigo was best on the day for Sauquoit Valley, going 2-4 at the plate, with a double, and driving in two runs.
S-E didn’t have much time to reflect on the defeat. The next day, Wednesday, May 10, they travelled to face off against league leaders Adirondack, losing on a final score of 11-3.
Although S-E had more hits than their opponents on the day, errors and walks proved costly for them. The Marauders outhit Adirondack eight to six, but had four errors, and gave up six walks in the loss.
“We played some good softball,” said Marauder head coach Michelle Parker following the loss. “But we beat ourselves. Going into the sixth (inning) it was a 6-3 game and all of their runs were walked batters.”
The Marauders will be hoping to break out of their recent slump when they play at home against Unatego on Friday, May 12, on their senior night. First pitch in that matchup is slated for 4:30 p.m., with the senior night celebrations happening just prior.
