Greene Softball defeats Oxford 6-4
GREENE – Much like their baseball counterpart, the Greene lady Trojans seem to be getting hot at the right time, earning a playoff berth – and most recently taking one final win on the season, defeating Oxford 6-4.
Jumping to a solid 4-2 lead, the lady Trojans looking to make some noise early. However, that is when their bats fell silent.
Greene earned just three hits in the game – being outhit by Oxford 4-3 – however, Oxford’s three errors proved to be more costly in the outcome.
The game would remain stalemated until fifth inning, when Oxford broke the silence, tying the game at 4-4 with a two run inning.
This ignited the playoff bound Trojans to a lead-changing run in the bottom of the fifth, followed by a cushion run in the sixth to take the close 6-4 game.
Chrissy Boeltz took the win on the mound, with Hannah Ludolph coming in for relief and pitching the final 4.33 innings – all seven innings, catcher was played by Tiffany Johns.
Oxford saw Allison Beckwith take the loss for Oxford, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out eight Trojan batters, while walking just two – proving to be the force that held Greene off for much of the game.
Raigen Ehly finished out the game for the lady Blackhawks, having no strikeouts and walking five.
Greene saw McKenna Sergi finish 2-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Chrissy Boeltz finished 1-3 with a run and an RBI.
Oxford’s Karly Marshman finished 2-4 with two RBI, while Catherine Northrup finished 1-3 and Kylie Roys finished 1-2 with two runs and two walks.
Oxford finishes the 2017 season – having agreed to play this extra game with Greene – with a record of 4-9 overall. Greene (10-8 overall) will now play at Moravia (11-2) in the first round of the Section IV Class C playoffs, on Thursday, May 18, at 4:30 p.m.

Bainbridge-Guilford Softball defeats Candor 9-0
CANDOR – The top-seeded Chenango County softball team, Bainbridge-Guilford added on two game prior to their Section IV Class C playoff game – with the first coming at Candor on Tuesday, May 16.
The B-G ladies added yet another win to their resume, defeating Candor 9-0 – simply overpowering the home team.
The star of the game was Kori Thornton, going 4-5 with three runs and two RBI, while also finishing with a solid outing on the mound, pitching six innings with 11 strikeouts and just one walk and two hits.
The lady Bobcats earned a run in the first, third, and fifth to jump the game to a close 3-0. However, the sixth inning proved to be when the engine started to churn for B-G. Bainbridge-Guilford scored two runs in the sixth, before piling on four additional runs in the seventh to bury Candor at 9-0.
Megan Palmatier of B-G would also finish strong at the plate, going 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
Bainbridge-Guilford (17-2 overall), is ranked as the fourth-seed in the Section IV Class C playoffs and will receive a first-round bye.
Therefore, prior to their 2017 sectional debut, they will host Oneonta on Thursday, May 18, to play the Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m.
“This will be a war of a game, this could be a great game,” said B-G head coach Randy Palmatier of Oneonta’s improvement over the season. “They are not the same team as the start of the season.”
Following the Oneonta game, Bainbridge-Guilford will play at home for their first sectional game in 2017, playing the winner of the Greene at Moravia matchup – the second-round game will be played on May 23, at 4:30 pm.
