OTSELIC – A high-scoring game is what the lady Vikings were entrenched in for their final game of the 2017 season, falling to Madison on senior night at 15-10.
Prior to the first pitch on Wednesday, May 17, Lauren Kenyon was honored as this years lone senior from the lady Vikings squad.
“Lauren was the sole senior on our team this year. As a very young team, Lauren was a great leader for the younger girls,” said Otselic Valley head softball coach Molly Shepherd. “She (Lauren) could often be seen carrying the most amount of equipment and would be the last to leave games in order to make sure the dugout was completely picked up. Her hard work, dedication, and commitment will truly be missed by the program. She never gave excuses.”
Kenyon sported a batting average of .167, scored three runs, and had four hits during the 2017 season.
The game would sway in favor of the OV girls with a run scored in the first, and just like that it would sway to Madison – as the visitors stacked on four runs in the bottom of the innings.
Down 13-2 after the first three innings, it was time to play ball for the lady Vikings. Ov went on a four run spurt in the fourth, followed by another four run spurt in the seventh in an attempted comeback.
Taking the loss on the mound for OV was Jolanda Ponce – pitching seven innings with three strikeouts and and five walks.
Madison’s Lewis, claimed the win, pitching four innings with five strikeouts and eight walks. Abrams pitching in for three innings with four strikeouts and just one walk.
Best in the loss for OV, was Jessica Comfort 3-5 with two runs. Ponce added in going 2-5 – while Grace Costa, Amber Meigs, senior Lauren Kenyon, Emily Miller, and Chyenne Remillard each added one hit a piece.
With the loss, Otselic Valley softball concludes their 2017 season with an overall record of 0-12. Section III Class D is an open invitation for all teams in 2017, however, due to reduced numbers as the season has progressed the team has elected to opt out of sectional play.

OV: 1 1 0 4 0 0 4– 10 9
M: 4 5 4 0 1 0 1– 15 18

Notably, the Otselic Valley baseball team ripped off a 10-6 win over DeRuyter on Wednesday, as well. No specific statistics were provided on the game.
OV baseball finishes the season with an overall record of 3-10 – however, has elected to participate in the open sectionals in 2017. The seeding meeting for Section III is on Sunday, May 21.
