Norwich man charged with seven felony counts
NORWICH – A 28-year-old Norwich man stands accused of seven felony charges against a minor following his indictment Wednesday.
Travis M. St. Denny, of Norwich, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual act in the second degree, class D felonies; and five counts of criminal sexual act in the third degree, class E felonies.
According to Judge James E. Downey, an arrest warrant was signed for St. Denny following the indictment Wednesday, but St. Denny appeared Thursday in court voluntarily with his counsel, Alyssa Congdon of Jackson and Bergman. The arrest warrant was vacated by Downey as St. Denny voluntarily appeared.
Congdon waived the reading of the felony complaints against St. Denny in open court, and entered pleas of ‘not guilty’ on behalf of her client on all counts.
Per the indictment, with regard to the class D felonies, it is alleged that St. Denny, in 2010, did engage in a criminal sexual act with a minor less than 15-years-old.
It’s further alleged that St. Denny – during months in 2010 and 2011 – did engage in a sexual act with a minor, which brought about the class E felony charges.
According to allegations, it is alleged the conduct took place in the Norwich and New Berlin areas.
Assistant District Attorney Laura Parker asked the judge for a bail increase to $30,000. In March of this year, St. Denny was charged with promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, a class D felony, and posted the $20,000 bail that was set by the court.
“Your honor, this is separate and apart from that,” said Parker. “This is a new victim and we are asking for additional bail. Next month we expect to add additional cases with additional victims.”
Downey continued the bail at the previously set and posted $20,000 and an order of protection was issued for the victim.
Parker entered into the record the people’s affidavit of service and readiness for trial.
Downey instructed St. Denny he is not to leave the area without contacting his lawyer and the court first.
The case has now been transferred to Chenango County Court and St. Denny will appear at a later date.
The defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
