Greene Community Scholarship Fund awards 37 seniors
GREENE–On Saturday, May 20, the Greene Community Scholarship Fund held its 12 annual “Spring Slice” golf tournament at the Genegantslet Golf Course in Greene.
During “Spring Slice”, 100 golfers came out in support of a good cause, enjoying a great meal and perfect weather conditions for a round of golf. Proceeds from the day, which included raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle, went directly to funding scholarships for graduating seniors of the Greene Class of 2017.
On May 21, 37 graduating seniors were honored and presented with their scholarships at the Silo Restaurant in Greene, where they enjoyed coffee and desserts, compliments of owner Gary Kurz. The students were joined by their family members, as well as 13 members of the Board of Directors and various business donors.
Along with the donors’ contributions, the scholarships were funded by year-long fundraising events, including the Phone-a-Thon, Golf Ball Drop and Spring Slice Golf Tournament. Since its inception in the year 2000, the GCSF has awarded 550 scholarships, totaling $396,400. President Megan Harrington stated, “None of this would be possible if it weren’t for the outstanding support we consistently receive from our community.”
The next event to benefit the GCSF will be a Rumble Ponies game Father’s Day weekend on June 17 at NYSEG Stadium at 7:05 p.m. A special ticket price of $7 is being offered if you buy your ticket from a GCSF Board Member or from a student.
The proceeds from those ticket sales go directly toward funding future scholarships. For this occasion, the Greene community scholarship fund asks everyone to come out that night and show your Greene pride by wearing green. To purchase tickets or for more information, call (607)287-1238 or e-mail GCSF@stny.rr.com.
