NORWICH – A new employee meeting area at NBT Bank's corporate campus in Norwich now features the artwork of Norwich Middle School Art Enrichment students after an unveiling ceremony on Thursday morning, May 25.
The new meeting area was created earlier this year by NBT based on an open concept to provide its employees with a new space to come together and collaborate.
"We wanted to add artwork to the space that would highlight our corporate values," said Florence Doller, NBT Director of Corporate Communications. "We contacted Art Teacher Matthew Wilson, and he felt it would be a challenging project for his advanced art students."
Wilson says his students subsequently approached the project the same way a professional artist would.
"First, the students created designs individually based off of the client’s wants and needs," Wilson said, adding that during this step the group brainstormed words that they felt embodied NBT's culture.
"Then we collaborated on what the final design would be and ended up doing a blend of a couple student designs," Wilson said. "After we selected the color schemes, we began sketching out the design. The students tackled the painting as a team, and everyone had a hand in the actual creation."
Students participating in Norwich Middle School Art Enrichment include: Natalie Benenati, Kaitlyn Blaisure, Savia Boyer, Angela Carlson, Kaili Fuller, Jesse Giordano, Jeanine Gonzalez, Andrew Meccariello, Andrew Mullen, Abigail Natoli, Makenna Nial, Bailey Olds, Maria Pomares, Sophia Root, Emma Scheuer, Rachel Seeley, Madison Stafford, Jessie Sutton and Samantha Taylor.
"We are honored to have the creative work of these students on display at NBT," said Joe Stagliano, NBT Executive Vice President of Operations and Retail Banking. "The ability to work as a team to meet a challenge is an important life skill, and we’re glad we could partner with the school to provide the students with this experience that will serve as an inspiration to our employees.
At the unveiling, Stagliano told the students, "One thing that really struck out to me is the words on the piece. These words, for us, are what we live by here at the Bank. You guys really captured what we were looking for, and you did a great job."
