NHS Alum’ Shannon Moore honored in Rookie Softball Campaign

HERKIMER – Herkimer General’s freshman softball player and Norwich High School Class of 2016 alumni Shannon Moore has excelled on the diamond during her rookie season.
Due to her impressive performance this past season Moore was honored due to her most recent successes. But just how impressive were her first year stats? They were absolutely incredible.
Playing in 33 games for the Generals, Moore finished fifth in the nation for NJCAA in batting average – hitting .545 on the season. Moore’s success at the dish continued as she finished the season ranked 11th in the nation amassing 50 RBIs on the year. But wait, there’s more for Moore. The hot-hitting infielder, led her General’s team in extra-base hits on the year with 26, which included 17 doubles, six triples, and three homers.
Due to her incredible play, Moore brought home the hardware this season as she was named Region III MVP for NJCAA Division III. In addition, Moore was named to the first team All-Region III team, first team All Mountain Valley Conference, and a first team NFCA NJCAA Division III All-American.
Despite her personal success on the field, Moore noted of the team falling short of their ultimate goal: winning a national championship.
“Though our team did not reach our ultimate goal of becoming national champions, we finished third in the country and the returning players are ready to work that much harder for next year,” said Moore.
While the storybook ending to her first year at Herkimer wasn’t in the cards, Moore and her teammates still have work to do. Something that the squad that finished 33-8, while making a trip to the national semi-finals during the 2017 softball season is prepared for.
The Generals head to the offseason understanding the work and grind that goes along with the chance to once again compete for that coveted national championship.
