NORWICH – The Chenango Junior Hellcats pulled off a victory of epic proportions last night, as they scored four runs in the final frame to capture a sublime come-from-behind win against a very strong Maine-Endwell team.
Down 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Junior Hellcats never lost hope.
"Things were looking bleak," said Junior Hellcats head coach Nick McCullough following his sides victory. "When you're down by three to Maine-Endwell, more times than not, you're going to lose. But you always have a chance, and we got ours."
JT Vinal got that chance for his team, and he made sure he made the most of it. He smacked a three-run triple off of Little League World Series Winning pitcher Michael Mancini to clinch the walk off win for the hellcats in dramatic fashion.
"JT turned his good game into a game he'll remember for the rest of his life," said coach McCullough. "I can't express how proud I am of these young men, beating a team of their caliber. M-E are a great baseball program, but tonight we showed up. This win shows that we can accomplish something really special."
Cody Beckwith secured the win on the mound for the Junior Hellcats. Beckwith pitched the first three innings, giving up just four hits, and surrendering no earned runs. Marcus Cashman would come in for relief in the final four innings, walking two, and striking out three.
Best on the offensive end for the Junior Hellcats in the win were JT Vinal, who finished 3-4 at the plate on the day, driving in four runs, and Tanner Costa, who went 1-3, with an RBI in the victory.
It will be hard to top this thrilling victory, but the Junior Hellcats will aim to replicate their efforts when they travel to face-off against Vestal next Thursday, June 15. First pitch in that matchup is scheduled for 5 p.m.
