County Chairman announces Public Hearing to discuss approach to consolidation
CHENANGO COUNTY – In accordance with a new mandate associated with the 2017-18 New York State Budget, Chenango County Board of Supervisors Chairman Lawrence N. Wilcox has given notice to the public that he is "...in the process of developing the Chenango County County-wide Shared Services Property Tax Savings Plan."
The new law states that in an effort to promote consolidation where appropriate, Wilcox should "regularly consult with, and take recommendations from, the representatives of each collective bargaining unit of the County, and the cities, towns, and villages."
Consequently, Wilcox has announced a Public Hearing to take place on June 12 at noon in the Board of Supervisors Chambers to allow the public an opportunity to comment on the prospect of County-wide shared services for the purpose of producing real property tax savings.
It is reported that the Shared Services Panel will subsequently convene following the June 12 Public Hearing to deliberate on how the County will proceed.
Those who are unable to attend the Public Hearing but would like to weigh-in on the prospect of consolidation are invited to write their comments to the attention of the Chairman of Board of Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors Chambers is located in the County Office Building at 5 Court Street in Norwich.
