Chenango Bullthistles have six riders reach podium at states, Trifunovic taking home first overall as points leader

QUEENSBURY, NY – Team Chenango Composite traveled up to Queensbury, New York, on Sunday, June 11 – capping off a truly successful season for 2017.
This fifth race of their long, grueling, and muddy season – gathers all the Mountain biking NICA league riders together for the New York State Championship.
“We had a great day with everyone finishing their races, with six Chenango riders visiting the podium in the end,” said co-head coach Rob Baker.
Immediately after the race was completed on Sunday, Baker announced that although the official standings had not been announced by the NICA league – he said the Bullthistles snagged their highest team point total to date, at 2,095 points – due to a first-place (590 pts), eighth-place (484 pts), seventh-place (492pts) and with the team’s first high school girl taking third-place (529 pts).
“They didn’t announce the teams placing but I’m betting we were top-five on the day,” said coach Baker.
Notably, due to having a female rider at the upper level of competition the team secured a fifth-place finish in their fifth race of the year.

• Stanton Baker of Norwich – sophomore boys – eighth-place
• Nick Loscavio of Norwich – freshman boys – seventh-place
• Ethen Eldred of Sherburne-Earlville – freshman boys – 10th place
• Alex Trifunovic of Greene – freshman boys – 11th place
• Jared Likens of Greene – freshman boys – 13th place
• Jason Hill – Greene – freshman boys – 22nd place
• Houston Edwards of Norwich – freshman boys – 29th place
• Daniel Scholl of Sherburne-Earlville – 7th grade boys – fifth-place
• Amy Bentley of Greene – freshman girls – third-place
• Anika Christensen of Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton – 7th grade girls – third-place
• Andrea Trifunovic of Greene – 6th grade girls – first-place
These results featured three podium finishes for the Bullthistles for the season results – with Andrea Trifunovic taking first-place; Anika Christensen claiming third-place; and Nick Loscavio claiming fifth-place.
As the season is now complete for the 2017 Chenango Composite Mountain Biking team, final individual standings were announced.
• Blake Bennett (two races) finished the season in 21st out of 29 riders for 6th grade
• Daniel Scholl (two races) finished the season 12th out of 18 riders in 7th grade
• Trent Rapp (two races) finished the season 15th out of 18 riders in 7th grade
• Jacob Lilley (2 races) finished the season in 27th out of 35 riders in 8th grade
• Nick Loscavio finished the season fifth out of 54 riders in freshman boys
• Ethen Eldred finished the season in 8th out of 54 riders in freshman boys
• Alex Trifunovic finished the season in 14th out of 54 riders in freshman boys
• Jarod Likens finished the season in 37th out of 54 riders in freshman boys
• Houston Edwards finished the season in 40th out of 54 riders in freshman boys
• Noah Bufalini finished the season in 47th out of 54 riders in freshman boys
• Stanton Baker finished the season ended the season 10th out of 32 riders in the sophomore boys
• Harrison DuBois (two races) finished the season 24th out of 47 in the JV boys
• Devon Feehan (one race) finished the season 36th out of 47 in JV boys
• Michael Cardoza (one race) finished the season 47th out of 47 riders in JV boys
• Andrea Trifunovic finished the season as the overall Champion in 6th grade girls – ending the season as the points leader.
• Anika Christensen finished the season third overall in 7th grade girls
• Amy Bentley finished the season – after a third-place in her first and only race this past weekend – in 7th out of 9 riders for freshman girls
Baker made it known to honor his riders with a ‘Tough as Nails’ mention – a distinction that goes out to riders who competed in and finished all five of the NICA League races in 2017.
Tough as Nails mentions go to the following: 6th grade girls – Andrea Trifunovic, 9th grade boys – Ethen Eldred, 9th grade boys –Nick Loscavio, 9th grade boys –Alex Trifunovic, and 10th grade boys – Stanton Baker.
For the 2017 season, the Bullthistles finish as a team ranked 11th out of 24 total teams.
