Car crash on Route 12 sends 3 out of 6 to local trauma center
NORWICH – A two-car motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 12 in the Town of Norwich reportedly sent three of the six people involved in the crash to a local trauma center on the evening of Sunday, June 18.
Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. reports that at approximately 7:12 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 center received a report of a two car motor vehicle crash in front of a local ice cream shop, south of the City of Norwich. A vehicle operated by Amber Ryan, 37, of Norwich made a left turn into the path of a northbound vehicle; operated by Randolph Smith, 61, of Earlville.
Amber Ryan was transported to UHS Wilson Hospital with minor injuries. The front seat passenger in Ryan’s car, Nicholas Ohl, 26, of Norwich was transported to Wilson Hospital with serious injuries.
Randolph Smith was transported to UHS Chenango Memorial with minor injuries. Robin Smith, a front seat passenger in Randolph Smith’s vehicle was also transported to UHS Wilson with minor injuries. Two rear passengers in Smith’s vehicle were reported as uninjured at the time of the collision.
Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the Norwich Fire Department responded to the scene – with the assistance of the Oxford Fire Department, Greene Fire Department and the New York State Department of Transportation. State Route 12 was closed for approximately three hours due to the investigation.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing at this time.
