Local artist “Revive the Ambience” set to showcase a place lost in time Friday June 23
UNADILLA – A local artist who works under the name of “Revive the Ambience” will be displaying his photography artwork of abandoned buildings at The Meeting Place coffee house this Friday, June 23, for one evening only.
Lifelong Norwich-resident Stefan Foster has been capturing rundown and abandoned buildings since August of 2013 when Foster was introduced to the art of decaying buildings by his partner, Kurt Riegel.
Quoted from Foster’s third published book, “My photography aims to capture the dark and obscure atmospheres of the abandoned buildings, cemeteries, and sites that I travel to. Through my photography, I aim to share my experiences from the haunting corners of the Earth I have been able to explore.”
Foster’s interest in abandoned buildings and photography began in college while studying Mental Hygiene Law, stemming from photographing and researching abandoned mental hospitals.
Foster says his passion in abandoned structures will never fade, and it’s been said this gallery event will showcase his drive and skills.
The Meeting Place, one of the area’s newest coffee houses, recently opened by Dwight Mott. Located on Main Street in Unadilla, Mott has enriched the community with his fine assortment of baked goods and creative meals, in addition to great coffee and beverages.
Foster, Mott, and Riegel discussed the idea of having an art gallery-type event at the newly opened coffee house, and they have been planning excitedly since then. Foster will be displaying and selling photography from his “Revive the Ambience” series of abandoned buildings, and he will be present to talk to any interested visitors.
Foster will also have select prints displayed in unique and old picture frames that he has reused.
“My style does not play into fad-aesthetics just to achieve the appearance of antique or old, nor is my work supposed to be edgy,” said Foster. “My photography is honest and the old/decaying frames I use, often that I have found in the garbage, embody a genuine quality of timeworn history. My work is an expression of emotion and serves as homage to the decaying grandeur I have viewed across America.”
The event serves as an opportunity to embrace local arts and local business, all in one unique community experience. All are encouraged to attend The Meeting Place on Friday, June 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., located at 187 Main Street in Unadilla.
