OXFORD – It was a rough outing for the Oxford PONY League team last Thursday, June 22. They were annihilated by the Edmeston PONY League team on a final score of 17-1.
This game was never really much of a contest. Edmeston jumped out to an early five-run lead after the opening inning, and never looked back.
There was an inning of relief for the Blackhawks – 0-0 in the second inning – before the Edmeston bats erupted for 10 more runs in the third inning. They tacked on two more in the fourth to clinch the comfortable victory.
Three Oxford pitchers, Brad Beckwith, Ethan Fleury and Evan Sylstra allowed 14 earned runs on 11 hits, giving up 11 walks and striking out four.
Best on the day for Oxford at the plate were Nick Cirello, who went 2-3 on the day, and Evan Sylstra, who knocked in the only run of the game for the Blackhawks, going 0-3 with the RBI. Beckwith finished 1-2 with a walk – while Matt Roach would get walked twice while scoring once.
The Oxford PONY League team now stand at 0-2 on the season. They’ll be hoping to get their first win on Monday, June 26, when they face off against Cherry Valley-Springfield. First pitch in that matchup is slated for 6 p.m.
