National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation invites scholarship applications

NEW YORK–The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation (NLEAFCF) invites children of law enforcement officers or firefighters killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty to apply for an NLEAFCF college scholarship before the July 1, 2017.

“It is our responsibility as a society to see that the children of first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice, achieve their full potential as active citizens and thriving members of the community. Helping these children pay for college and complete their higher education is the least we can do to honor the fallen heroes who have given so much to protect us,” said NLEAFCF President and Founder Al Kahn.

General scholarships provide a maximum award of $5,000 for a single academic year. Awards are based on financial need as well as academic merit and other achievements, such as demonstrated leadership, outstanding performance in the arts or sports, and/or volunteer activities benefiting the community. The number of scholarships awarded varies from year to year. Scholarships may be renewed annually (for up to a maximum of four years) depending on the availability of funds and the financial need and the academic record of the awardee.

Applicants must be dependent children, stepchildren or legally adopted children of an eligible law enforcement officer or firefighter who was killed or totally and permanently disabled in the line of duty. Details on the scholarship applications can be found at this link: http://nleafcf.org/scholarships/general-scholarship/

The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation (NLEAFCF) is dedicated to helping the children of law enforcement officers and firefighters lost or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Through grants, college scholarships and family-friendly events, the NLEAFCF serves the needs of these children across the country regardless of how long ago or how recent their loss.

Since 2006, the NLEAFCF has awarded approximately 280 college scholarships and special need grants to students, families and organizations across 39 states. The Foundation’s long-term commitment is a promise to the people who defend and protect us. It is a major investment in our nation’s future and in tomorrow’s heroes.
