Blackhawks fall victim to Cherry Valley in final game

OXFORD – In what will be their final game of the season, the Oxford PONY League team succumbed to Cherry Valley-Springfield on a final score of 9-6.
In what was a high-scoring affair, the Blackhawks always playing catch up and fighting to come from behind.
After the opening inning, they fell in a 3-1 hole. Oxford managed to score three runs of their own in the second inning, but Cherry Valley came back with two to reclaim the lead.
In both the third and fourth innings, Cherry Valley were able to pad their stats, outscoring the Blackhawks 2-1 in both innings.
Neither team notched any runs in the final three innings, and Cherry Valley were able to hang on for the three-run victory.
Best in the loss for Oxford were Nick Cirello, who went 2-3 at the plate, with an RBI, and Evan Sylstra, who also went 2-3 at the dish on the day – but his two RBI’s wouldn’t be enough to save his team from suffering defeat.
The Oxford pitchers would put up quite the show on the mound, despite the loss, combining for 10 strikeouts and just two walks – although allowing 10 hits in the process.
Nick Cirello would pitched four innings with five strikeouts and two walks, allowing nine of the ten hits for nine runs – eight being earned.
Nolan Dodweitz came in for relief for three innings, shutting down all Cherry Valley’s progress to the tune of five strikeouts, no walks and just one hit allowed.
With this final game in the books, the Oxford PONY League close out their season with a record of 1-4-1. The final two games that were scheduled for Oxford will unfortunately be forfeited due to numbers.
