SCHENEVUS – As the Otsenango PONY League regular season slowly comes to an end, the Unadilla Valley Storm need every game they can get to clinch a playoff berth.
With six teams already securing a playoff berth, UV had the opportunity on Thursday July 6, to take down the top team in Division C – Schenevus. Unfortunately, for UV, they dropped back one game in the Division C standings, as Schenevus won 15-6.
With a balanced offensive attack, Schenevus secured an early, yet steady lead throughout the ballgame – taking a 5-3 lead after the first two innings. Yet the young UV Storm team fought back in the top of the third, scoring three runs taking a slim, but nonetheless one-run lead into the bottom of the inning.
From there, it was all Schenevus. Home field advantage was on full display as the comfortable Schenevus Dragons proceeded to go on a 10 run tear over the final four innings.
The advanced running game of the Dragons swiped 10 bases on the afternoon with four Dragons ballplayers stealing two or more bases. In addition, pitching won the day for Schenevus striking out 11 UV hitters – making up more than half of the outs in the game.
For UV, they recorded seven hits and seven walks – but seemingly couldn’t get the right hits when it counted. Defensively, UV faced challenges from their hard hitting opponents as they committed eight errors in the game, allowing six of the 15 Schenevus runs to score unearned.
