ONEONTA – It was the home team who took all the spoils on Wednesday night, as Oneonta were victors in the Otsenango PONY League consolation championship, beating Unadilla Valley on a score line of 13-2.
After a tense first inning, the Yellowjackets jumped out to a nine-run lead and never looked back.
Oneonta tacked on four additional runs in the third inning to complete their barrage.
The Unadilla bats were stifled throughout the game, with the team only managing to lodge just two hits the entire game. Those hits came off of the bats of Drew Emrich and Brandon Kneale.
Oneonta grabbed nine team hits in the win – as the defenses played solid baseball, both committing just two fielding errors.
Colin Grant got roughed up on the mound for the Storm. Grant lasted just two and a third innings, giving up 12 earned runs on eight hits.

On their way to the consolation championship game, Unadilla Valley toppled Margaretville in the semi-finals by a score of 11-6 on Tuesday evening.
The Storm got off to the worst possible start, giving up three runs in the opening inning, and another run in each of the following two innings to go down 5-0.
However, UV showed resilience and battled back. They went on a tear of their own in the fifth inning, notching eight runs.
The Storm added another three runs in the sixth to secure the victory.
The stars in the win for UV were Colin Grant, who went 1-3 at the plate. He drove in three runs with a double. Gavin Bonczkowski went 2-4 on the day, driving in two runs.
The UV PONY League team finished with an impressive record of 5-6 overall. They will look to improve next year – losing just three players – as they hope to apply the lessons that they learned this summer, as they move toward the future.
