MVA claims life of 92-year-old man; Other driver in critical condition

UNADILLA – A two-vehicle crash in the Town of Unadilla claimed the life of a 92-year-old man on Monday, July 31.

New York State Police say that Joseph A. Norton, 92, of Sidney was deceased at the scene after his car – traveling eastbound – drifted into the westbound lane and struck a dump truck traveling westbound head-on.

The dump truck was driven by Jeffrey S. Haynes, 38, of Sidney, who was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and is in critical condition, according to Troopers.

The passenger in the dump truck, Jackie R. Ryan, 40, of Mt. Upton was transported by ambulance to UHS Wilson Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Evening Sun contacted Albany Medical Center for an update on Haynes' condition, but they did not have an update by print time.

The investigation into the accident remains ongoing. Further information will be released as it is made available.
