Police: Parolee operating ‘suspicious vehicle’ gave false name

OXFORD – Police said a parolee gave them a false name when stopped on Turner Street.

According to members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Miller and Deputy Eaton stopped a ‘suspicious vehicle’ Tuesday night that was said to be operated by 34-year-old Richard Tyler.

It was reported that during the stop, Tyler allegedly gave authorities a false name, but, “members of the Sheriff’s Office were already familiar with his true identity.”

“After being warned it was a crime to provide a false name and date of birth, Tyler again provided the same false information,” read a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Tyler is further accused of driving with a suspended license.

He was arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court for false personation, a class B misdemeanor; and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500 cash bail.

Tyler is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
