Chenango Valley 1, Norwich 0

NORWICH – Last season, the Purple Tornado lost to Chenango Valley 3-0. This fall, they well out looking for redemption but fell just short.
With evenly match teams made the game have a ping-pong like feel, the first half ended in a zero-zero tie. That changed early in the second half, when Chenango Valley’s Sara Marinaro took an unassisted shot from outside the six yard box, taking a 1-0 lead.
Norwich had many chances to close the one goal gap but couldn’t capitalize, ultimately taking the heartbreaking loss.
Norwich’s goalie, Saige Benedict, record six saves for the game. Teammate Emily Layman defensively shut down one side of the field for Chenango Valley, making it hard for them to score another goal and add to the lead.
