SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville struck early in the first quarter with a 85 yard kick-off return by running back Vinny Albertina. However, after being up 6-7, the Marauders had some trouble containing Dolgeville’s run game. The Blue Devils were able to march down the field and put a touchdown on the scoreboard with 6:39 left in the 1st quarter.
Dolgeville was then able to capitalize on a Marauder fumble and punch another one into the end zone with 3:14 left, making the score 22-7.
The scoring didn’t stop for Blue Devils as they added another touchdown from two yards out at the 8:47 mark of the second quarter.
Sherburne-Earlville would begin to show some signs of a comeback as they recorded a safety following a punt that was downed inside the Dolgeville five yard-line. Immediately on the next drive for the Marauders, Gabe Irwin tossed an 11 yard pass to Lincoln Owen, which closed the gap before half making the score 28-15. Irwin ran in the 2-point conversion to finish the first half scoring 28-17.
The Blue Devils continued to have success with their game strategy running the next three touchdowns from 24 yards, 7 yards and 5 yards.
S-E was able to put the last two points on the board for the contest with another safety, making the final score 47-19.
“At half I thought we were in a good position. The onside recovery broke our spirit,” said S-E Head Coach Ed Holmquist. “We will not let this game deinfe our season, We need to regroup and respond next week.”
S-E will be on the road next Friday, September 8 against Canastota. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
