UV wins NY Pizzeria Tournament for the 4th year in a row
NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley Girls Soccer program hosted their annual NY Pizzeria Tournament this past weekend, September 8 and 9. Three out of four teams that participated were from the Chenango County Area.
On Friday night, the host Unadilla Valley Storm would take on the Raiders of Gilbertsville-Mount Upton. The Storm did not hold back on shoot as they shot 17 on goal, putting five in the net to win the first round match-up with a final of 5-2.
Stephanie Montgomery would start the scoring for UV on an assist from Kyleigh George in the first-half of the contest. Her teammate Julia Oglesby would tack on the other first half goal for the Storm. The Raiders would add a goal in the first-half as well from Hunter Christian, who received a pass from Marena Zaczek. The half total for both teams would end at a score of 2-1.
UV continued their scoring rout with goals in the second-half coming from George with an assist from Oglesby. Paige Catena of UV would score her first goal of the contest also. Oglesby would tack on the fifth and final goal for the Storm.
GMU received their final goal of the game from Christian's second of the contest.
Bainbridge-Guilford matched up against Milford in the first round of the tournament. Kate Roeff would score in the first-half of the game for the Bobcats. Milford would tie the game with a goal coming from Sarai Banks.
Taking the 1-1 tie into the second-half, the Bobcats would take the lead on a goal from Alli Miller. Miller's goal would be the game-winning score as the Bobcats would win with a final of 2-1.
Bainbridge-Guilford matched up against the Storm in the championship game. The first half would end with no goals by the either team, making the second-half the deciding half.
The scoring would open up by Oglesby recording another assist on the weekned as Cearah DaCostafaro found the back of the net. Kristen White would also score a goal giving the Storm two for the contest. The Bobcats' Molly O'hara would help cut the lead to one on her goal but that would be the only score for B-G as they would lose to the host UV.
Bobcats goalie Megan Palmatier would gather 14 save in the game as UV recorded 16 shots on goal. B-G would have 7. Only allowing one to reach the back of the net from the Bobcats seven shots past her would be Storm goalkeeper Kristen White.
Milford would top GMU in the consolation game earlier in the day.
