Lady Vikings flat start to second half results in loss over the weekend
STOCKBRIDGE VALLEY – After a very emotional week, the Lady Vikings of Otselic Valley took the field for the first time since the passing of their peer Carter Rood.
OV jumped out to a great start as they recorded two goals early in the first half as Grace Costa and Summer Sergent each recorded a goal. Cassie Agren assisted on a goal as well as teammate Jessica Comfort.
Defensively, the Lady Vikings were able to shut down Stockbridge Valley’s tops scorer in the first half. But that changed in the second half as Stockbridge recorded four goals, three coming from Jill Jacobs for the hat-trick.
OV’s goalkeeper Lacy Wood made 10 saves in the game.
“The emotions of the week finally caught up with us,” said Vikings Head Coach Eric Wentworth. “Big thank you to Stockbridge Valley’s Athletic Director Corey Graves, Head Coach Mark Kiser and the girls team for the thoughtful gifts that were presented to us before the game in honor of Carter.”
Otselic Valley will hit the turf again Wednesday, September 20, in the first round of their tournament against rival DeRuyter at 7 p.m. Unadilla Valley and Cato-Meridian square off in the first game of the doubleheader at 5 p.m. The championship and consolation games will be played on Friday, September, 22.
