Unatego Spartans remain undefeated, fight through the Storm for 3-2 league win
UNATEGO – In what was the most evenly matched game of the 2017 season when it comes to Chenango County volleyball teams – it was Unatego who emerged victorious in the 3-2 fight on Tuesday, September 19.
Better yet for the matchup, both Unadilla Valley and Unatego were undefeated coming into Tuesday’s showdown – Unatego left unscathed.
It all came down to the final set – set number five – as UV and Unatego split the first four in back-and-forth action.
Set one was a big UV Storm win at 25-20, however, it was Unatego who found a way to take set two at 26-24. The lady Storm dominated the third set at 25-9, only to have the score flopped in the fourth at 25-17 – Unatego ended the back-and-forth winning the fifth set.
For Unadilla Valley, it was Erin Kelly and Jenna Hitt who each had six aces followed by Izora Ramsey with four aces. Macie Franklin had six kills and Izora Ramsey had four – Kelly and Sierra Schrag each had five assists, while Rebecca Ruffino had 16 digs.
For the lady Spartans of Unatego, Carly Hill and Megan Short each have five aces, while Hill and Short each also had four kills. Madison Rivera had six assists, with Alexa Hurlburt having two digs.
Next up for undefeated Unatego volleyball squad (5-0 overall), they will be playing their next game at home against Whitney Point on Thursday, September 21, at 5:30 p.m.
Unadilla Valley (2-1 overall) they will now be preparing for the upcoming Johnson City tournament this Saturday, September 23.
