BINGHAMTON – On Wednesday September 20, the Norwich Purple Tornado boys varsity soccer team suffered their latest setback, this time at the hands of the Chenango Valley Warriors by a final score of 7-1. While the final score did not tell the tale of the tape for the Purple Tornado, it was instead among the statistician types to be considered a curious and rare victory.
Despite the Warrior’s deep roster and keen play, the Purple Tornado managed to out-shoot the hometown team by a margin of 14-12.
Unfortunately for the Tornado, their offensive opportunities left unconverted. Meanwhile, the Warriors found their fortunes to be quite fruitful on the CV turf field during the first half of play. Streaking out to a 5-0 lead early in the contest made a comeback effort by the visiting Purple prove difficult. But nonetheless, the spunky and determined Tornado athletes stayed the course.
“We just couldn’t find the net,” said Norwich head coach Scottie Decker. “CV got breakaways that we just couldn’t stop.”
The lone highlight for the Purple Tornado was the goal converted by junior Corry Woodard early in the second half. Woodard’s goal came as part of a Norwich offensive attack that was emerging into CV territory. With Woodard finding a gap, his gifted soccer genes took over launching a fast-accurate shot towards the Warriors goal – finding the netting for the long-range score.
Despite the loss, the Purple Tornado return to action today Friday September 22, when they travel to Susquehanna to take on the Sabers with game time set for 4:30 p.m.
