Three new NPD officers swear in
NORWICH – Three new Norwich Police Department officers were sworn in at Tuesday evening's Common Council meeting, bringing the department's staff to 19 officers according to Chief Rodney Marsh.
Steven Rounds, formerly of the Oxford Police Department, was sworn in Tuesday, along with recruits Ryan Hagen and Michael Oralls, who are currently attending the Mohawk Valley Police Academy.
Hagen and Oralls have been attending the academy held at Mohawk Valley Community College since June, Marsh said, and they are expected to graduate the academy this December.
Rounds' first day with NPD was Wednesday, September 20.
"We are excited to have these new officers joining the department," said Marsh. "The filling of these positions will bring the department that much closer to being fully staffed."
Marsh said once Hagen and Oralls graduate the academy, they will have several months of field training to complete as well.
While the base salary for a newly hired officer is dependent upon the officer's prior experience, Marsh said the current base salary for a new officer with no training or experience is $46,147.
"I also want to thank the mayor and the Common Council for their continued support of the department," said Marsh.
