Second and third place finishes for the local Vikings and Storm at the Otselic Valley Tournament
OTESLIC – The first game of the boys double header Thursday night saw a win by Holy Cross Academy out of Oneida against Unadilla Valley by a score of 4-1.
Finishing the game with the lead, Otselic Valley entered the championship game after a 1-0 win over DeRuyter.
Vikings Tanner Costa had the lone goal on a pass by the head of Josh Egleston, finding the left side netting.
That did not stop DeRuyter from still putting on pressure as they worked hard to get back in the game.
Garrett Forrest the OV keeper played a great game, he seem to allways be in position an had good hand tonight. Egleston and Carter Smith keep OV’s sheet cleaned with saves to help Forrest.
All four teams were back in action on Saturday as the Storm took on DeRuyter in the consolation game. UV brought home a third place finish as the scored two in the first half and finished with a total of three in a shutout win.
Dylan Nichols tacked on two goals for the Storm and teammate Tom Gillette put the ball past DeRuyter’s keeper Hayden Bush. Brady George had two assists while Skot Lindholm had the other.
Storm goalie Adam Lamont had six saves to keep DeRuyter scoreless. Bush matched Lamont’s save total but allowed three to pass by in the losing effort.
The championship game between the Vikings and Holy Cross had a crazy finish. Holy Cross Academy went home with the trophy the game came down to 4-3 shootout victory after 2-2 tie to end regulation.
Holy Cross opened up the scoring with a goal in the first half as Matt Marciag was in the right place at the right time.
Holy Cross tacked on their second goal on a cross from Marciag, allowing Joe Kaminski to finish and increase the lead to two.
One minute after the Holy Cross goal, Tanner Costa was taken down inside the box and the Vikings were awarded a penalty kick. Lane Adams punch it into the back of the for the PK to get OV on the scoreboard.
Less than 17 minutes remaining, Egleston’s pass found a streaking Adams, giving Adams a chance to finish the ball into the side netting and tie up the contest.
OV’s goalie Garrett Forrest recorded 16 saves on 19 shots from Holy Cross. In the opposite net, Brendan Johnson saved 19 of OV’s 22 shots on target.
