OTSELIC – Coming off a win this past weekend, the Otselic Valley Vikings boys soccer team added another wins on the season with their barn-burner of a contest on Monday, September 25, as OV squeaked out the 1-0 victory over Moravia.
With the Vikings improved play as of late, it comes to no-surprise that the boys from Otselic Valley took the lead early in the contest. In the first half of play, Tyler Bard sent a rocket of a shot into the netting of the Moravia goal as he received a low-cross from teammate Lane Adams, giving OV the 1-0 lead, and providing the only offense seen in the game from either club.
With the first-half yielding the only signs of offense within the game, it was only fair that spectators were treated to hard-nosed, stingy defense from both teams.
With Moravia scrapping to come up with a goal of their own to neutralize the OV lead, the defensive efforts of Micah Lyon, Devin Stone, Jonah VanVoorhis, and Carter Smith spoiled any chances by the opposing Moravian offensive line. And even with a rare Moravia shot on goal, the goalkeeping of Garrett Forrest was solid as ever between the pipes. Forrest recorded five saves on the evening and his counterpart in the Moravia goal Ethan Manning saved 16 shots from oncoming OV players.
The Vikings (2-5-1 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, September 27, when they travel to Morrisville-Eaton to play Stockbridge with game time set for 4:30 p.m.
M: 0 0 – 0
OV: 1 0 -1
Shots on goal: M- 7, OV- 28
Corners: M- 2, OV- 10
