NYSP Troop C celebrates 100 years with free open house
SIDNEY – In celebrating its 100th year of service, New York State Police are inviting the public to attend a free Centennial Open House at Troop C Headquarters in Sidney this Saturday, October 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"Our hope is to be able to show the public what we do, and what we've done historically," said New York State Police Public Information Officer Nathan Riegal.
The free event will feature helicopter and rescue demonstrations, K-9 demonstrations, firearms displays, the underwater (scuba) recovery team, Special Operations Unit, NYSP mounted unit, historical displays, hands-on patrol car displays, vintage troop cars and motorcycles, tours of Troop C Headquarters, McGruff the crime dog, and historical films.
Riegal said each of New York State Police's troops have been hosting open houses this year to celebrate the Centennial anniversary as a way to show the public a glimpse of the way NYSP has operated over the last 100 years.
"It's going to be a big event," said Riegal. "You'll see all the old uniforms, all the old weapons, all the old equipment we used on display."
Parking for the open house is off-site, and attendees will be shuttled to Troop C Headquarters from allocated parking on Delaware Ave. and Union St. NYSP say that the shuttle buses will be handicap accessible.
While the event is free, there will be merchandise and food for sale.
"All are welcome, please come out and join us!" said a press release from NYSP.
