Lady Tornado defense keeps game close with No. 1 Blue Devils

NORWICH – In a game were the stats shown a blowout by Chenango Forks, it was actuality a very close game for the Torando as the Blue Devils won the contest 3-1.

In the last go-round between these two teams, Chenango Forks took the win easily, scoring eight goals to Norwich’s two. In that contest, Forks took 38 shots on goal.

Tuesday’s game was much different as Norwich only allowed the Blue Devils to take 10 shots.

The scoring opened up by Chenango Forks’ Lauren Ashman, six minutes into the contest as they took the 1-0 lead. That lead was taken into intermission.

Norwich matched that with a penalty kick from Taylor Hansen at the 18:52 second half mark. The penalty kick was awarded as a result of Sydney Coggins driving to the net and being fouled inside the box.

Emma Bough gave the lead to Forks again with a goal five and half minutes later, sneaking one past Tornado keeper Saige Benedict. Ashman did the same at the 35:42 mark to give a final score of 3-1 in favor of the Blue Devils.

Despite the three goals scored for Chenango Forks, Benedict was everywhere in front of the net as she dove or punched shots away to keep the game close.

Norwich head to Oneonta next on Thursday for a match against the old rival Yellowjackets. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. start at the Oneonta High School.
