GREENE – The Greene High School Interact Club held a loose change drive during the last week of September to donate to a police station affected by Hurricane Irma.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office in the Lower Keys area of Florida was selected based on on the location and damage from the storm. The Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement service to all of the Florida Keys, which include approximately 112 miles of islands branching off the southern tip of Florida, according to the office's website.
Members of the Interact Club, as well as high school Principal James Walters, Superintendent Gordon Daniels, and Guidance Counselor Matt Butler, presented Officer in Charge, Jeff Messina, of the Greene Police Department with a check for $1016.40 thanks to their generous fundraiser. Messina will pass the check along to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
