Afton girls field hockey still dominant; ranked 15th in Northeast
AFTON – The Afton Crimson Knights field hockey program is one with much history, lots of pride, and many wins – something the 2017 squad has been adding to.
On Wednesday, October 4, Afton hosted Walton – disposing of the out-classed visitors by a score of 8-0.
Shredding the Warriors in half by the halftime break, Afton indeed did take four goals in for scores before the stanza was over.
It was no fluke that Afton managed to once again do well, as the team produced 33 shots on goal and 20 corners – while Walton had just two shots and no corners.
A mismatch indeed.
Scoring in the shutout win for the Crimson Knights was Janelle Volk, who earned the hat-trick with three goals and one assist; Casey East, who snagged brace with her two goals; Makaela Mills, who also took a brace in the win with her two goals; and Madison Baciuska who had one goal and two assists.
Afton’s goalkeeper made two saves to ensure the shutout remained just that. Walton’s Riley McAdams was kept much busier in the net, making 27 saves in the game.
Afton field hockey (12-1 overall, 7-0 league), is notably ranked 15th in MaxPreps Northeast high school field hockey standings – a ranking that includes all schools from Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York.
Next up for the Crimson Knights, they will be home against Owego Apalachin on Saturday, October 7, at 11 a.m. – Afton’s seniors will be recognized prior to the start of the Saturday game.
