Purple Tornado Boys XC finishes 4th at STAC East Division Championships

HARPURSVILLE- The Norwich High School boys and girls cross-country team traveled to Nathaniel Cole Park in Harpursville Tuesday afternoon for their annual STAC East Divisional meet. Since the Tornado do not have a home invitational or dual meet, this meet served as senior night honoring those seniors in attendance; Alison Mikalunas, Nicole Mikalunas, Graham Rudy, and Zayn Harper for their dedication to the program.

As for the Purple Tornado men’s performance, they placed fourth out of six complete teams. Windsor claimed the divisional title with 43 points, Oneonta finished second with 50, Chenango Forks in third with 71, the Tornado in fourth with 74, Susquehanna Valley finished fifth with 110, Chenango Valley claimed sixth with 155, and Seton Catholic Central had an incomplete team and did not record a score.

Noah Bufalini claimed the top spot for the Tornado, placing sixth among the 68 divisional opponents with a time of 19:20 over the 5K course. O’rion Slater finished four spots back of Bufalini, placing 10 for a time of 19:37. Stanton Baker took a 17 place finish on the day, to the tune of a 20:14 timed finish. John Matlack-Grey was the fourth Tornado to cross the tape, placing 21 in a time of 20:42. Rounding out the Purple Tornado scoring was Zayn Harper placing 29 in a time of 21:36. Serving as the two displacement runners was Andrew Meccariello in 40 and John Clarke in 49. Meccariello recorded a time of 23:03 and Clarke timed 24:10.
