Lady Tornado battle through sickness to sweep Sabers on the road Thursday
CONKLIN – The Sabers hunkered down, but were simply not ready for the Purple Tornado that swept through the Binghamton area on Thursday afternoon.
Norwich’s volleyball team, traveled south on Thursday, October 12, dominating Susquehanna Valley in three sets for the 3-0 Norwich win.
“With the front middle sick tonight, we had to change the lineup around and the girls adjusted well to playing different positions,” said Norwich head coach Shelly Alger. “Gabby Eddy was sick and didn’t play. Everyone else had the opportunity to play.”
Even with the readjusting to the front line of the Tornado, Norwich still ripped into the SV Sabers for an opening set win at 25-15. The Saber squad rebounded for a closer set the second time around, but couldn’t close the gap, resulting in a 25-18 Norwich win.
Up 2-0, the lady Tornado struck for their most devastating set of the night, earning the 25-14 win – and closing out the shutout road win.
For Norwich in the win, thee following individual statistics stood out: Layla Burton with eight digs; Marleigha Clipston with one kill; Ripley Strong with two aces, two assists, and one dig; Riley Strong with three assists, and three kills; Kalie Binelli with two aces, one assist, three kills, and eight digs; Lexi Taylor with three aces, one assist, 11 kills, two blocks, and four digs; LeahAnne Humphrey with three aces, and 14 assists; Kylie Marvin with one kill, and one dig; Jazmin Rodriguez with one assists, three kills, and six digs; Virginia Maiurano with one assist, three kills, and six digs; and Alexis Polcare with one dig.
No individual statistics were reported for the Susquehanna Valley Sabers. Sus. Valley’s Junior Varsity team earned the win over Norwich.
Next up for Norwich volleyball (7-3 overall), they will play home against the Spartans of Maine-Endwell on Friday, October 13, at 6:30 p.m.
