Purple Tornado smashes through the Spartans for shutout home win Friday

NORWICH – The Norwich volleyball team has now gained their eighth win of the 2017 season – defeating the Maine-Endwell Spartans at 3-0 this past Friday evening.

Playing on Friday, the Spartans visited Norwich in a game that saw the Tornado earn all three, close set wins.

And extremely close sets they were indeed. Norwich outscored Maine-Endwell by just 11 points combined, besting the lady Spartans at 76 to 65 for the three set total.

Norwich stole the first set by two points, besting M-E at 25-23. The second set saw the Spartans battle to extra points – however, Norwich scratched out the win at 26-24. The third and subsequently final set, M-E seemed to have gassed their energy, resulting in a Tornado win at 25-18.

In the win for Norwich, the Lady Tornado produced the followed individual statistics: Layla Burton with one ace, one assist, and 17 digs; Marleigha Clipston with one ace and two digs; Ripley Strong with six assists, three kills, and six digs; Riley Strong with three aces, seven assists, and three digs; Kalie Binelli with five aces, five kills, and seven digs; Alexis Taylor with one ace, one assist, 10 kills, and 12 digs; LeahAnne Humphrey with four aces, seven assists, and two digs; Kylie Marvin with four digs; Jazmin Rodriguez with four aces, three kills, and five digs; Virginia Maiurano with three aces, three kills, and three digs; Gabby Eddy with three kills; and Alexis Polcare with one assist.
