DERUYTER- Emotions were heighted on Friday, as one player from each the OV and DeRuyter soccer teams were ejected during the 75 minute contest. This game did not disappoint as the tightly contested match featured some sublime defensive efforts for both clubs as the Otselic Valley Vikings claimed their final win of the 2017 fall season by the final score of 1-0.

With each respective team’s troops finding the trenches early in the contest, OV found their starting 11 reduced to 10 when a Vikings player was carted off the field with their second yellow card of the contest. The remaining 60 minutes showed the resilience of the OV squad. With all hands on deck, the Vikings managed to keep the DeRuyter offense at arm’s length by keeping the game knotted at zero.

As the game switched over to the second half of play, the Vikings squadron called for all hands to be on deck. OV striker Tanner Costa found himself all over the field, and played a major role in how the only goal of the game would be scored. Off of a Garrett Wood free-kick in the second half, Costa cut towards the netting, giving the DeRuyter defense the ‘okie-doke’ as Wood’s ball curved around the wall of defenders finding the back netting giving OV the 1-0 lead.
