Lady Storm hand a convincing 5-1 loss to Watkins Glen Senecas
NEW BERLIN – Taking full advantage of home field, Unadilla Valley topped the visiting team Watkins Glen with a final of 5-1 Friday.
Kicking off the scoring for the Storm was Cearah DaCostafaro when her teammate Shelby Meade found her open. DaCostafaro fired a shot past the Seneca’s keeper at 14:43 for the 1-0 lead.
The Seneca’s tied the game on Hannah Matusicky’s goal in the first half, giving Watkins Glen hope again the two-seed Storm.
DaCostafaro tacked on her second goal of the contest as she finished a pass from Julia Oglesby early in the second half, taking the lead back for the Unadilla Valley. They never lost it again as they added on three more goals in the second half.
Two of those three were scored by UV’s leading goal scorer Oglesby with one coming on assist from DaCostafaro.
Meade added another assist in the match on the last goal of the contest by teammate Paige Cantena with just under four minutes remaining.
We played a good game. My girls wanted the win and it showed. So once the storm started to roll there was no stopping them.
The Storm will look to continue their outstanding season and sectional run when they host three-seed Elmira Notre Dame Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
