Lady Storm sectional run halted in loss to Elmira Notre Dame
NEW BERLIN – Laurel Vargas of Elmira Notre Dame didn’t want to end her junior season with a loss after the long ride to Unadilla Valley. She prevented that from happening as Vargas finished with a hat trick and assist in the 6-2 rout over the home team Tuesday.
Jumping out to an early 3-0 first half lead, the Lady Crusaders didn’t act like the long bus trip to visit the Storm effected them.
UV’s leading goal scorer, Julia Oglesby, scored in the second half to help her team avoid the shut out by Taylor Gray.
Gray did record eight saves in the contest for Elmira Notre Dame but Unadilla Valley’s Shelby Meade was able to sneak a second past her, giving the Storm their two goals for the match.
But it was all Crusaders as they were able to tack on another three goals after the intermisson, leading to a final of 6-2
In addition to Vargas, other that finished for Elmira Notre Dame were Ellie Mustico, scoring twice, and Jillian Perrault. Mustico also recorded one assist while Perrault shared the ball three times on goals for her team.
Meegan White, keeper for Unadilla Valley during the match, also saved eight of the Crusaders shots.
The Storm’s season comes to a close with a final record of 14-3 and a Midstate Athletic Conference Division and Tournament Championship. Elmira Notre Dame will play in the Class C tournament final against top-seed Trumansburg in Norwich on Saturday.
