Athlete of the Week; Josh Wilson, Harpursville-Afton Hornet Football
Harpursville-Afton senior running back Josh Wilson is your Evening Sun Athlete of the Week.
Wilson is a member of the Hornets’ varsity football, basketball, and baseball teams––but his impact at Harpursville High School extends beyond the field and court.
Hornets’ Athletic Director Josh Quick said Wilson is a student who regularly visits the elementary school during the day to help the budding Hornets in their classes and play during recess.
“[Josh] is a well-rounded student who is likely going to be in the top 10 this year for his class,” said Quick. “He intends to go to college to continue his education, and he would like to play football as well.”
Josh was inducted into the National Honors Society and is a part of Interact (a Rotary-sponsored club) in the Harpursville School District.
Wilson is had an impressive senior season at the half-back position for the Hornets, boasting stats of 13 total touchdowns, 984 yards rushing on the ground and 175 yards from his 20 receptions.
Josh’s performance against Oxford/GMU stands out the most as he recorded 149 yards on the ground from 11 carries, 92 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
The most yards he carried for in a single game was in the Section IV Class D quarterfinal against Unatego/Franklin, a huge upset 19-13 for the Hornets. Josh rushed for and average of 8.6 yards/carry as the result from 172 yards on 20 carries.
Josh also had another three touchdown game in Sidney, despite the Hornets loss to the Warriors in week three.
Be sure to watch for him on the hardwood this winter and baseball diamond next spring.
