OXFORD – Jacob Murrer came off the bench to hit four three-pointers in the contest to help Oxford claim its first win of the new season 48-39 over Franklin.
The Blackhawks scored double-digits in the final three quarter, which featured a 17 point second quarter that was led by their C.J. Smith.
Smith scored eight of team-high 16 points in that quarter.
Franklin’s Mike Manzer wasn’t going to let his team go down without a fight. He had 12 of his game-high 23 points in the third quarter, helping his team close the Blackhawk lead to three by the end of the third.
But Oxford’s defense held strong in the final quarter, only allowing Manzer to score two and the team to a total of eight points.
The Blackhawks scored 14 in the fourth, giving themselves the nine point win.
Down the stretch, Oxford’s Jason Davis went 7-of-12 from the foul line, allowing Oxford to keep the lead. Davis had a total of nine points. All of Murrer’s points came from the four three’s, giving him a total of 12 on the night.
“We are only returning one player so it took some time to settle in. Both teams were missing players due to injury and illness but those who played, played hard. Both teams had though defense the entire time,” said Oxford’s head coach Tim Davis.
Oxford (1-0) will look to follow up with another win when they host non-league Chenango Valley on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
