Toys for Tots spaghetti dinner and movie fundraiser at Colonia Theater next week

NORWICH – Lon Yerton of Nina’s Pizzeria & Restaurant has announced the details for the 2nd annual Toys for Tots Spaghetti Supper Benefit to be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13 at the Colonia Theater in Norwich.

This year, patrons of the dinner will also have an opportunity to enjoy a movie – either The Polar Express or Frozen – as part of the benefit. The movies will begin immediately following the spaghetti supper at 7 p.m.

Last year’s successful event was held at The Label Gallery and for 2017, Dave Shull of Nina’s Pizzeria & Restaurant said he designated Lon Yerton as this year’s event chairperson. Lon reached out to Rich & Todd Barnes of Barnes Family Enterprises regarding the 2017 event, and thanks to the Barnes Brothers’ generosity, the 2nd Annual “Dinner & Movie” Toys for Tots Fundraiser will take place at the Colonia Theater in downtown Norwich. Dinner will take place upstairs in the theater’s newly renovated event space, and the movies will be in the two theaters on the 1st floor.

The Barnes Brothers expect this community event will offer the public an opportunity to see the completed renovations on the theater's second floor and all this prime downtown location offers for family, organization, business, and community events. Mr. Yerton extends thanks to NBT Bank and Sidney Federal Credit Union for their sponsorship of the evening’s two movies. The movies will begin at 7 p.m. and theater seating will only be available for patrons who purchase tickets for the spaghetti dinner.

Admission to the spaghetti supper will be five dollars and an unwrapped toy to donate, and the supper will include spaghetti & meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverage prepared by Nina’s. Children five and under can eat for free. Seating is limited and tickets will be sold at the door.

For the past several months, Yerton has been actively working with local businesses to coordinate this event ensuring 100 percent of the money raised from the admission and of course, all of the toys, will go directly to Toys For Tots for Christmas 2017.

Nina’s is providing the meal, Barnes Family Enterprises (Rich & Todd Barnes) are providing the venue for dinner & movie, the movies The Polar Express and Frozen are sponsored by NBT Bank and SFCU respectively, and the following have also donated to make this year’s event possible: Chobani, Burrell’s Excavating, Pires Flowers, Norwich Beverage, Service Pharmacy, Rentals to Go, Chenango Union Printing, Canasawacta Country Club, Jim Lobdell and The Evening Sun/Pennysaver.

When asked if Santa Claus would be making an appearance, Lon Yerton had no comment; however, he did offer that NYS Senator Fred Akshar and City of Norwich Mayor Christine Carnrike plan to attend along with members of the Norwich Police and Fire Departments.

Please visit or call Nina’s at 607-334-6278 with questions about the event. Mr. Yerton expects this to be a successful event and reminds everyone that seating for the dinner will be limited (occupancy is 225 for the dinner venue) and seating for the movies will be on a first come first serve basis for those who purchase tickets for the dinner. The concession stand will be open for the movies.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 13 for the Toys For Tots 2nd Annual Spaghetti Supper Dinner & Movie Benefit to be held at the Colonia Theater, 35 South Broad Street, Norwich.
