SHERBURNE – The Lady Marauders pressuring defense helped get some easy baskets which got their offense going in Sherburne-Earlville’s first win of the 2017-2018 season, topping Canastota 51-22 Thursday night.
Kaitlyn Furner led all scorers in the game with 15 points but she also hauled in six rebounds for the Marauders. Tessa Cole chipped in 10 points while also having a stat line of six assists, five rebounds and four steals.
All together, the Marauders had a pretty balanced scoring night as Amberlynn Robertson and Corey Jeffrey each added eight and Sohpia Khory tacked on six.
Canastota was led by Jess Evans with 12 points.
The Lady Marauders will look to for win number two of the season on Saturday, December 16 as they host Delhi at 3:30 p.m.

Oxford 42, Sidney 30
SIDNEY – In their second meeting this season, Oxford topped the Sidney Lady Warriors 42-30, revenging the loss from the consolation game at the Greene Tip-Off tournament just two weeks ago. The win gave the Lady Blackhawks their first win of the season.
The win stems from the getting the ball inside and three of Oxford’s post players finishing at the rim with some nice post moves, stated Oxford’s head coach Chris Palmer.
Caitlyn Quigley, one of the Blackhawks’ post players, finished with three made field goals and went four-for-six from the free-throw line. She led all scorers on the contest with 10 points.
Karley Miller and Hannah Hodge, Oxford’s other two post players chipped in eight points a piece while their teammate, Jada Albin dished out six assists.
Sidney’s Savannah Baldwin ended the night with a team-high nine points in the loss.
Oxford will have the weekend off before they host Greene on Tuesday, the Blackhawks’ last game before the holiday break.

At Morris Tournament
MORRIS – With mutiple lead changes in the contest Thursday night, the opening game of the Morris Tournament proved to be a good one for the fans but a tough outcome for the Oxford Blackhawks.
With 2:11 left in the contest, Oxford’s leading scorer Jason Davis was called for his fifth and final foul. At the time of Davis’ foul, the Blackhawks were leading 49-46. Deposit/Hancock didn’t know allow Oxford to score again after that.
Jacob Murrer was able to get a contested shot up with three seconds left but his shot wouldn’t fall through the hoop. Murrer’s attempt would have sent the game into overtime had it gone in.
Davis led the Blackhawks with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Teammate C.J. Smith added 13 for Oxford in the loss.
Deposit/Hancock was led by Cole Russell, scoring a game-high 23 points.
Oxford will play in the consolation on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hancock 3, Greene 1
HANCOCK – The host Hancock Wildcats topped Greene in their match Thursday night, 3-1.
Greene scored their lone point of the match by winning game two of the evening as they outscored the Wildcats 797-770. In that game, the Trojans’ Brandyn Scott scored a 222. His match series was 566, leading Greene. Teammate Jakob Cook finished with a 507 series.
Hancock won their three points in game one, game two and total points as they recorded a score of 2584 for totals pins. Anton Leonard, Thomas Schoonmaker and Shane McAndrew all compiled series scores in the 500’s for the Wildcats.
Greene’s next match is scheduled for Friday against Afton-Harpursville. They will host the match that starts at 3:45 p.m.
Girls Bowling
Hancock 4, Greene 0
HANCOCK – The Lady Wildcats swept the visiting Greene Trojans on the girls side behind series’ highs from Ashley Hanstine (604), Brenna Gleim (550) and Mickayla Norton (532).
Hanstine also recorded the highest game of the amtch with a 253.
Greene’s Maddy Pickard finished with a 185 for the highest game for the Lady Trojans as well as a series high 497.
Courtney Pratt recorded a 436 and LeeAnna Grannis ended her night with a 422 series.
The Lady Trojans will also host Afton-Harpursville at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
